If you can use an oil rather than a grease I think mineral oil should work, it has a high smoke point and is used to oil wooden salad bowls.
Catch and release - into the grease!

You want Dow-Corning Molykote HP300 Extreme Temperature Food-Grade Bearing Grease

http://www.dowcorning.com/applications/search/default.aspx?R=498EN

They might even send you a small sample.  Alternately you can get it at K R ANDERSON CO INC in Morgan Hill, CA (I think that is the closest to your location...)

I bought this to overhaul my "new in box", from 1988 Ditting:

http://www.drillspot.com/products/389069/Crc_Industries_03038_Food_Grade_White_Grease

$15 shipped.

If you have a Grainger account, you can get it cheaper.

I like it because I can spray it directly if needed, or onto a piece of cardboard if I need to apply it by hand.

Thanks guys for the recommendations.  Do any of these uses a grease gun to apply??  Or it just
in a tube.  I think the application needs a grease gun to shoot into the bearing area.

The one I referenced is like a can of WD-40; it can be sprayed and it comes with a little straw.

if this is for a bearing not just some random moving part u have another issue. Suddenly BW's recommendation is about what I also vote for.
You need something that doesn't just drip out. Your main problem is that it needs a fairly high viscosity at high temp. If this weren't a 'food grade' request, gear oil type things would be great.

While I loved mineral oil before, you have to scratch things of that nature if you are trying to ghetto "repack" a bearing here. Bearings don't really need to be lubed for low levels of friction, but rather to prevent mechanical damage from friction over time. The "balls" or the rollers inside a bearing already ensure that friction is kinetic friction not static. Thats why bearings gone dry work just as well, but die really fast.

I doubt that is rated for the kind of heat that is in the roaster.

You're probably right ... however this is made for grinders:

Hope this helps.

That moly grease for roasters looks pretty interesting. Seems like about the least expensive option of all those in this thread.

yes, that sounds pretty promising.  Although the stuff BW recommended also good for
250C.

However, reading the product fact sheet of the Molykote HP-300, it says that at temp
above 482F/250C, this material may product highly toxic gaseous compound such as
hydrogen fluoride and perfluorohydrocarbon.  Is that something to seriously worry about??
