Can anyone ID this La Cimbali?
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:01:24 PM »
Many thanks in advance. I just picked this off ebay for $452 plus shipping. I believe it is in fact a junior, but I am guessing the vintage is a bit earlier than the seller claims. Also not sure if it is vibe or rotary:

Would appreciate any info.

Thanks much,
Paul

Home-Barista has some nice things to say about this machine

http://www.home-barista.com/junior-buyers-guide-conclusion.html

If I had to guess about the pump type, H-B is saying it's a rotary and I'd have to agree.  Looking at your machine ebay pics, I don't see a cap for a water reservour on the one pic of the top.  I would imagine if it was a pour over, you would see a cap on top for the reservour, then it might use a vibe pump

Don't be shy about asking for help from this group once you get the machine unpacked and you have questions :evil5:  I think your first order of business will be to pull the boiler heater so you can have a look inside the boiler to assess how much if any accumulation of calcium deposits there are or aren't

Have fun with your new to you HX machine!

Thanks Jake. If I understand correctly Cimbali made both rotary and vibe versions, and some of the vibes were plumbed-in models. This apparently came out of a cafe, so I am guessing it was plumbed. The apparent age makes me think it is a vibe, but I just don't know. Also, it looks to me like it is a semi-auto controlled by a dial rather than a touchpad, but the pics are a little fuzzy. What do you make of the markings for the dial down at the bottom of the machine?

I am just taking a SWAG on this, but to me it looks like the dial to the left is for powering the machine up.

Next to it is a button that will start the brewing process...

The dial in the center is for you to select cup size - single, double, etc...  It does look like a semi-auto.

From the listing:

It has an automatic water feed.  To me, that's plumbed, no?

Thanks much guys. B|Java, I thought the same thing, but now believe he is talking about the hot water wand.

Seller tells me it needs to be plumbed. Does that make it a "D" with vibe pump? Looks too old to have a rotary. Any Cimbali enthusiasts here?

Thanks,
Paul

You may want to try Homebarista if you have not done so already ... they are the best that I have found at various machines ... chances are that one of the members there ones one of them.
